Essay Instructions: Students should write a 5 paragraph essay answering the following writing prompt. You may use any notes, video sources, or research you complete in class. Students should strive to meet the following criteria:
Intro paragraph: Introduce you argument to the audience which gives us an idea of how you will answer the prompt.
Body Paragraphs: You should include historical and current examples to justify your argument. One paragraph should draw comparisons to the pastone paragraph should draw comparisons to current day policies surrounding immigration. Each paragraph should include a correctly cited source which supports your argument
Concluding Paragraph: Restate your argument, and explain to the reader why you are correct.

Writing Support: You will be given two days in class for research and writing. You may use any sources we have used in class, and theoretically still get a passing grade-just depends on how you use the sources. You may arrange to come work on your paper during Advisory Lab and get extra support from Ms. Piety.
How will you be graded: Students should be able to demonstrate their understanding of the fact that both Mexican immigrants and U.S. citizens of Mexican heritage were caught up in the deportations, making the term “repatriation” problematic. Connecting this historical chapter to similar events (forced relocation of Native Americans, internment of Japanese Americans) and understanding that attitudes and police towards immigration are closely tied to economic (jobs, money being spent in country) will be highly valued.
